LSAT Support from
the Center for Pre-Law Advising
Preparing for the LSAT can sometimes feel overwhelming and isolating. We’re here to help! In addition to meeting with CPLA for 1:1 advising conversations, we hope you’ll consider attending an LSAT 101 session or registering for our full LSAT Prep Workshop Series.
LSAT 101 Session – Free!
CPLA’s LSAT 101 session is a one hour, introductory level information session about the LSAT. It is a free event, open to all. The session covers the basics of what is on the test, when to take it, options for how to prepare, and where to find free prep materials.
Check our Events page for information about upcoming workshops or to register.
LSAT Workshop Series – $100 fee, full scholarship available
LSAT Prep courses offered through private vendors can be very expensive. Our office knows it is important to offer additional support for UW-Madison students and alumni who cannot afford a live course from a test prep company and/or who seek more support than the free LSAT prep resources on LawHub.
That is why we developed a live online workshop at the low cost of $100. We have full scholarships available to cover the costs of students and alumni who demonstrate financial need!
Workshop Details
This workshop series is taught by CPLA advisor Janet Mitchell, who has over a decade of test prep experience. The series includes live sessions on Zoom one evening per week for 5 weeks, with each session lasting 1 hour. Participants will also access a Canvas course with homework and additional instructional content.
- The series is best for those who are in the earlier stages of their LSAT prep, as it will emphasize content that is foundational or heavily tested on the exam.
- We will introduce some high-yield concepts and strategies, teach some basic formal logic concepts, and give you more support to structure a self-study plan.
- The workshop will not cover topics in the same breadth and depth as a commercial course, and will require students to continue studying once the workshop is over.

Who can attend the workshop series?
The CPLA workshop is open to UW-Madison students, alumni, and staff members. Unfortunately we cannot currently support students from other universities.
When is the workshop series held?
The Center for Pre-Law Advising (CPLA) offers our LSAT workshop series three times a year: Spring (February-March), Summer (May-June), and Fall (October-November).
Check our Events page for information about upcoming workshops or to register.
How can I get a full scholarship?
If finances prevent you from participating or impact your ability to support yourself while studying (food, rent, family care), you are eligible for a full scholarship! There is space in the registration form for you to let us know you would like to be considered for a scholarship and to explain how this would limit your finances.
We trust students to tell us when they need support. There is no need to submit any financial records or tax statements, but it will help to provide some specific details.
- An example of a request that would not be specific enough would be, “It would help me greatly not to pay.”
- An example of a request that would be specific enough might be, “Paying the registration fee would negatively affect my ability to purchase groceries or pay my rent this month.”
Scholarship recipients are required to attend all five sessions. Scholarship decisions will be made once all registrations are in; decisions will be emailed to applicants.
Do I need to sign up for the LSAT 101 session?
When you sign up for the LSAT workshop, you will also see an option on the registration form to register for an optional introductory LSAT 101 session. This is a free event, open to anyone, and covers the basics of what is on the test, when to take it, options for how to prepare, and where to find free prep materials.
If this will be your first time taking the current format of the LSAT, we highly recommend attending LSAT 101. If you are retesting within the current format, feel free to skip the intro.
Where can I find more information about the LSAT and LSAT prep options?
LSAT prep is not one-size-fits all and there are lots of ways to prepare. You can find more information about the exam itself, free and low cost prep, and commercial test prep course options on our LSAT page.
